The Holy Places and Their Mysteries
Nineteen of the twenty Mysteries of the Rosary happened somewhere you could stand. These are those places, in the order of the life of Christ — from the house at Nazareth to the empty tomb.
Nazareth and Galilee
The Basilica of the Annunciation, Nazareth
Built over the home of Mary, where the angel Gabriel greeted her and the Word became flesh. The lower church encloses the grotto venerated as her dwelling.
The Wedding Church, Cana (Kafr Kanna)
In the village where Christ worked His first sign at the request of His Mother, turning water into wine and revealing His glory.
Capernaum and the Mount of Beatitudes
The lakeside town Christ made His own, and the hillside above it where He preached the Beatitudes and proclaimed the Kingdom of God.
The Church of the Transfiguration, Mount Tabor
On the summit where Christ was transfigured before Peter, James, and John, and the voice from the cloud named Him the beloved Son.
The Jordan and Judea
Al-Maghtas (Bethany beyond the Jordan)
The riverside place remembered as the site of the Lord's baptism by John, where the Spirit descended upon Him like a dove.

In the hill country of Judea, where Mary greeted Elizabeth and answered her blessing with the Magnificat.

Above the grotto where Christ was born and laid in a manger — the oldest church in the Holy Land still in daily use.

The Temple Mount
The court of the Second Temple, where the infant Christ was presented to the Lord and where, twelve years later, His parents found Him among the teachers.
The Cenacle (Upper Room), Mount Zion
Where Christ instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper, and where the Holy Spirit descended upon Our Lady and the Apostles at Pentecost.
The Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations
At the foot of the Mount of Olives, among ancient olive trees, where the Lord prayed in agony and sweat blood before His arrest.
The Church of the Flagellation, Via Dolorosa
Near the Praetorium, remembering where Christ was scourged at the pillar and crowned with thorns by the soldiers.

The Way of Sorrows through the Old City, walked by pilgrims for centuries as the road Christ took carrying His Cross to Calvary.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Built over both Calvary and the empty tomb — the place of the Lord's death and of His Resurrection, held under one roof.
The Chapel of the Ascension, Mount of Olives
On the ridge east of the city, marking where Christ was taken up into heaven forty days after the Resurrection.
The Abbey of the Dormition, Mount Zion
Where the Church remembers Our Lady falling asleep at the end of her earthly life, before she was taken up body and soul into glory.
The Fifth Glorious Mystery, the Coronation of Our Lady, has no earthly shrine — it is honored in heaven, and so it is kept in the heart rather than visited on a map.
