The Joyful Mysteries walk with Mary and Joseph through the coming of Christ into the world — from the angel's announcement to the finding of the twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple.

Begin

Make the Sign of the Cross and pray the Apostles’ Creed on the crucifix; one Our Father on the first bead; a Hail Mary on each of the next three beads; and a Glory Be. Then announce the first Mystery below.

The First Mystery

The Annunciation

Fruit of the Mystery: Humility

“In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, ‘Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.’”

Our Father

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary — pray ten times

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.

Then announce the Second Mystery and pray its decade in the same way.

When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, ‘Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.’”

Finish

After the fifth decade, return to the medal and pray the Hail, Holy Queen and the Closing Prayer. Then, by beloved custom, pray to St. Michael the Archangel and end with the Sign of the Cross.
